Scraps into Reversible Pouch/Rice Bag

Bonus: Hot Pads and EQ8 Designs

Japanese Komebukuro – pouch

I purchased an inexpensive pdf pattern from KZStevens here. The instructions are easy to follow and there are options for three sizes of bags. In the past, I’ve made all three sizes and can recomend the two smaller ones. The largest bag needs extra tabs and doesn’t make as nice of a shape when completed. It is ok, but the smaller two are very charming. The bags pictured here are the original size as made by following the pattern as written.

Making Fabric

One of the beautiful things about these modern rice bags is that you can make them from scraps or yardage. I used leftover scraps from the Pojagi style curtain posted here. This used several floral fabrics from Connecting Thread’s Spring Nectar Fat Quarter Sampler. Some of the additional scraps were used to make a couple of hot pads that measure 7″ x 8″ with straight of the grain binding – also from leftover scraps, Lt Chai N5472, Lt Red Orange N5484, and Red Orange N5477 to be precise.

Bonus Quilt Ideas

Thank you to Connecting Threads for the lovely fabric and also for the corresponding thread set! Using Electric Quilt 8 and the fabric download files from Connecting Threads for the Spring Nectar Fabric line, I designed a few quilt mock ups for fun.
